OpenAI Acquires Statsig in $1.1B All-Stock Deal, Appoints Its CEO as New CTO of Applications
OpenAI has struck a significant strategic agreement to acquire product experimentation startup Statsig in an all-stock deal valued at roughly $1.1 billion, based on OpenAI’s current $300 billion valuation. As part of the deal, Statsig founder and CEO Vijaye Raji will join OpenAI as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Applications, poised to lead the product engineering for flagship offerings such as ChatGPT and Codex—overseeing core systems, infrastructure, and product integrity.
The acquisition, announced on September 2, 2025, marks one of the largest transactions in OpenAI's history and underscores its intensified push to bolster application development amid fierce competition. Reports highlight that OpenAI’s revenue has doubled in the first seven months of the year, reaching a $12 billion annualized run rate, with projections suggesting up to $20 billion by year-end.
OpenAI’s newly formed Applications division—led by CEO of Applications Fidji Simo, who joined the company in mid-August—is gaining further depth. Raji will report directly to Simo. Meanwhile, internal restructuring includes elevating engineering leads: Srinivas Narayanan has stepped into a new role as CTO of B2B Applications, focusing on enterprise and government solutions, and Kevin Weil, the former Chief Product Officer, transitions to become VP of AI for Science. His former product team will now report to Simo.
Statsig, well-known for powering A/B testing, feature flagging, and real-time decision-making for numerous prominent clients, will continue to operate independently from its Seattle-area headquarters. Its employees will transition to OpenAI, though the company plans a measured approach to integration to ensure continuity for existing customers.
Strategically, this move enhances OpenAI's capacity for rapid experimentation and iteration across its product suite—potentially accelerating the pace of innovation for ChatGPT, Codex, and future applications.
