Until Then Announces Afterimages DLC Expanding Narrative Content

The narrative adventure game Until Then is set to receive a major downloadable content expansion titled Afterimages later in 2026, developer Polychroma Games and publisher Maximum Entertainment announced. The upcoming DLC will add two new story chapters and a suite of additional gameplay elements to the critically acclaimed base game, which first launched in mid-2024 and has since built a strong following among fans of character-driven indie titles.

Afterimages is designed to deepen the emotional arc of the original story by exploring the lives of key characters beyond the base game’s ending. One of the new chapters will follow the character Sofia as she returns to her hometown and confronts memories from her past, while the other focuses on protagonist Mark as he encounters both a new romantic interest and an old friend, according to details shared in the DLC announcement.

In addition to expanded narrative content, Afterimages introduces new minigames, including activities described as tarot reading and baking, which are intended to provide players with more varied interactive moments beyond the core storytelling. The DLC will also incorporate in-game phone apps for dating and video content, alongside the introduction of both new and returning characters who will interact with the main cast.

Polychroma Games and Maximum Entertainment confirmed the DLC at a recent gaming event, revealing that it will be a paid release scheduled for later in 2026, though an exact release date has not yet been announced. The announcement generated significant buzz online within the Until Then community, where fans have long discussed the possibility of additional content that continues the journey of Mark, Sofia and other beloved characters.

Until Then originally debuted to widespread praise for its heartfelt storytelling, atmospheric pixel art, and intimate portrayal of friendship and memory. The game has maintained positive reception since its launch on PC and consoles, with many players lauding its emotional depth and relatable character dynamics. Its popularity led to extended discussions about future content even before the official DLC reveal.

The announcement of Afterimages reflects a growing trend of narrative expansion in indie games, where developers build on successful original works with story extensions rather than standalone sequels. By adding narrative layers and fresh interactive features, the DLC aims to both reward returning players and attract new audiences to the Until Then world.

While full details on pricing and platform availability remain forthcoming, Polychroma Games has signalled that Afterimages will be offered across all platforms where the base game is available, including Windows, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch. Fans can expect further trailers and developer updates as the DLC’s development progresses toward its 2026 launch window.
