Nintendo Announces Xenoblade Chronicles X Release for Nintendo Switch
By Harry Negron, October 30, 2024
Nintendo has confirmed that Xenoblade Chronicles X, the beloved open-world RPG from the Wii U era, will be released for the Nintendo Switch as Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition on March 20, 2025. This remastered edition will feature enhanced visuals and additional story content, giving fans more to explore in the game’s sci-fi world of Mira. Originally launched in 2015, Xenoblade Chronicles X is widely praised for its expansive world, massive customizable mechs, and complex battle systems. The game’s revival on Switch marks the completion of the entire Xenoblade series’ transition to the current-generation console, following previous releases of Xenoblade Chronicles and its sequels.
The announcement fulfills long-held fan requests, as Xenoblade Chronicles X was one of the last significant Wii U exclusives not available on the Switch. Fans have anticipated its port for years, partly driven by hints from Tetsuya Takahashi, director at Monolith Soft, who previously expressed interest in making the game accessible to more players. The re-release is also part of Nintendo’s recent push to expand its lineup with major first-party titles, including Donkey Kong Country Returns HD and Metroid Prime 4, making 2025 an exciting year for Switch owners.
Priced at $59.99, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition will give new and returning players a chance to experience the full journey through Mira’s challenging environments, complete with new story elements that were not available in the original release.
