Prediction: Trump Poised for Victory as Harris Struggles in Key Battlegrounds
By Harry Negron, November 6, 2024
As votes are counted in the tightly contested 2024 presidential race, Donald Trump appears to have a clear path to victory. Trump’s current advantage in key battleground states, including Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, suggests that Kamala Harris’s path to securing the necessary 270 electoral votes is increasingly narrow. As of recent projections, Trump has gained North Carolina and Iowa, bringing him to approximately 214 electoral votes, with several crucial states still in play.
To secure victory, Harris would likely need to win both Wisconsin and Michigan, which were vital to Joe Biden’s 2020 victory. However, results from Wisconsin and Michigan show Trump holding a lead of around 3% with more than half of the votes counted, making it a difficult challenge for Harris to overcome. According to WHYY analysis, Harris's path hinges on a “Blue Wall” strategy, which requires winning all three key states of Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. This is a formidable challenge, given Trump’s apparent strength in these regions and the heavy investments his campaign made in battleground states to secure a victory.
Despite having held slight leads in Western states like Arizona, these are now gone and Harris’s standing in the Midwestern "Blue Wall" states is crucial to her campaign. Without Wisconsin or Michigan, Harris’s options narrow significantly. Trump’s team has indicated high confidence, particularly after securing North Carolina, a state that Biden lost narrowly in 2020 but was seen as a potential swing toward Harris due to demographic shifts.
With things as they are, I believe that Trump will emerge victorious. The current electoral math shows that Harris’s path to victory is steep, especially with her narrow margins in Wisconsin and Michigan. If these states remain in Trump’s favor, his route to the presidency will be all but assured.
