Open access ledger

What open access means at Jivaro Journal

Open access does not mean the article record has no rules. It means accepted articles are made freely available while copyright, attribution, ethics, third-party rights, and correction policies still apply.

Open access element
What it means
Practical effect
Immediate access
Accepted and published articles are made available to readers without a paywall.
Readers can access published article pages where practical without subscription or article purchase.
Author copyright
Authors retain copyright in their work unless a specific written agreement says otherwise.
Authors grant Jivaro Journal the rights needed to publish, distribute, archive, display, and identify itself as the original publisher.
CC BY 4.0
Published articles are generally licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International unless stated otherwise.
Readers may share and adapt the article, including commercially, if they follow the license terms.
Third-party material
Images, figures, data, excerpts, software, or other material owned by others may not automatically be covered by the article’s license.
Authors must identify separate rights or secure permission where needed.
No current author fees
Jivaro Journal currently charges no submission fees, publication fees, article processing charges, page charges, color charges, or withdrawal fees.
No fee does not guarantee review, acceptance, publication, editing, priority handling, or expedited treatment.
Scholarly record
Open access does not prevent corrections, clarifications, expressions of concern, retractions, removals, or article-record updates.
Article records may be maintained, updated, corrected, preserved, or restricted when policy requires it.

Author and reader rights

What authors keep and what readers may do

Open access works best when authors and readers understand the difference between copyright ownership, publication rights, article licensing, and reuse obligations.

Authors keep

  • Copyright in the article, unless a specific written agreement states otherwise.
  • The ability to be credited as the author or authors of the work.
  • Responsibility for the accuracy, originality, permissions, disclosures, and integrity of submitted material.
  • Responsibility for checking whether third-party material can be published under the article license.

Jivaro Journal receives

  • The right to publish, distribute, archive, display, and preserve the article.
  • The right to identify Jivaro Journal as the original publisher of record.
  • The right to maintain article pages, metadata, citation information, and publication records.
  • The right to correct, clarify, update, retract, restrict, or remove article records when policy requires it.

Reuse checklist

How readers may reuse articles

Under CC BY 4.0, readers may generally share and adapt the article, including commercially, if the license conditions are followed and third-party rights are respected.

Give attribution
Credit the author or authors, article title, journal, and original source where practical.
Link the license
Include a link or reference to the CC BY 4.0 license when reusing the article.
Indicate changes
If you adapt, translate, excerpt, remix, or modify the article, indicate that changes were made.
No implied endorsement
Reuse must not imply that the authors, Jivaro Journal, or Jivaro endorse the reuse, adaptation, product, claim, or organization.
Check third-party material
Figures, images, datasets, software, excerpts, or other third-party material may have separate rights and may not be covered by the article license.
Respect article status
If an article has a correction, clarification, expression of concern, retraction, or removal notice, reuse should not hide that status.

Third-party material

Not everything in an article may be reusable

Open access applies to the article under its license. It does not automatically clear every third-party right, dataset term, image permission, software license, privacy restriction, or confidentiality obligation.

Author responsibility

Authors are responsible for ensuring that third-party material can be included in the article under the article license, or for clearly identifying material that is excluded from the license or subject to separate rights. This may include images, figures, tables, datasets, software, code, questionnaires, screenshots, maps, diagrams, copyrighted excerpts, proprietary material, or restricted data.

Limits

Open access does not override other policies

Open access does not override copyright law, privacy obligations, research ethics, consent limits, third-party rights, confidentiality obligations, data restrictions, corrections, retractions, removals, or other publication policies. Retracted articles may remain accessible with a notice unless legal, privacy, safety, copyright, or serious harm concerns require removal or restricted access.
