FromSoftware's Duskbloods Sparks Bloodborne 2 Speculation as Switch 2 Exclusive
FromSoftware has officially announced “The Duskbloods,” an exclusive title for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, igniting widespread speculation that the game may be a spiritual successor to the cult classic Bloodborne. Unveiled during a Nintendo Direct broadcast on March 28, 2025, The Duskbloods is scheduled for release in 2026 and will be directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki.
While not officially labeled Bloodborne 2, the game’s atmosphere, setting, and aesthetic elements strongly mirror those of the original PlayStation-exclusive title. The trailer showcased haunting gothic architecture, eerie moonlit environments, cryptic NPC dialogue, and characters wielding arcane weaponry and flintlock-style firearms—hallmarks of Bloodborne’s visual and thematic style.
The Duskbloods introduces a new gameplay structure described as PvPvE, supporting up to eight players. Players will assume the roles of the Bloodsworn, warriors enhanced by a mystical blood rite, battling each other and otherworldly creatures for dominance and survival. The game’s narrative centers around the waning days of humanity and the violent struggle to become the “First Blood.”
Nintendo’s move to secure a FromSoftware exclusive has surprised industry analysts, as the developer’s flagship titles have traditionally launched on PlayStation or multi-platform. This marks the first time a Souls-like title of this scale will debut exclusively on a Nintendo system, aligning with the Switch 2’s upgraded hardware and performance capabilities.
Fan reactions have been mixed, with some celebrating the continuation of Bloodborne’s legacy, while others express concern over the multiplayer direction and limited platform access. Nevertheless, the announcement has positioned The Duskbloods as one of the most anticipated titles for Switch 2’s launch cycle.
A full interview with Miyazaki is scheduled to be released on Nintendo’s official channels on April 4, where additional gameplay and story insights are expected.
