Old School RuneScape Introduces Scurrius the Rat King in Latest PvM Update

In a thrilling update to the world of Old School RuneScape, players are now faced with a new and daunting challenge: Scurrius, the Rat King. This latest addition, unveiled during the Winter Summit 2024, marks a significant milestone for the beloved MMORPG developed by Jagex, as it continues to expand its rich and engaging content.

Scurrius the Rat King emerges as a level 60 boss, designed to introduce players to the game's PvM (Player vs. Monster) content. A unique feature of this boss fight is that Scurrius employs all three combat styles, setting him apart from other PvM battles in Old School RuneScape. This multifaceted combat approach is specifically tailored to aid mid-level players in mastering combat mechanics, offering a comprehensive experience in ranged, magical, or melee combat skills.

Located in the eerie and labyrinthine sewers of Varrock, Scurrius offers both solo and group combat options. “Scurrius can be found east of the ladder in Varrock Sewers,” Jagex informs players, inviting them to explore the depths of the sewers. The encounter with this royal rodent is not just a battle for survival but also a quest for growth, as Scurrius primarily rewards combatants with experience points to level up their combat skills.

This boss fight is an excellent opportunity for players to refine their combat techniques, as Scurrius does not have a specific vulnerability to any combat style. This allows players to freely train their melee, ranged, or magic skills, with Jagex hinting at a particular advantage for melee combatants. The fight against Scurrius is not only a test of skill and strategy but also a gateway to more challenging and complex boss battles in the game.

In addition to experience points, players can also obtain the Rat Spine, an untradeable material dropped by Scurrius. This rare item is key to crafting one of three new weapons: the Rat Bone Bow, Rat Bone Staff, and Rat Bone Mace. These specialized Rat Bone weapons grant a significant +10 increase to max hit when used against rats and Scurrius himself, making them valuable assets in players' arsenals.

The update also addresses other aspects of the game, confirming a bug fix related to blood runes and encouraging players to participate in a post-League IV survey. Furthermore, with the official forums set to close in March, Jagex invites players to join the game's Discord community to form clans and engage with fellow adventurers.

For more information, players can visit the Old School RuneScape Discord site on April 25th, where they can also view a summary video of the Winter Summit revelations. This latest update underscores Jagex's commitment to continually enhancing the Old School RuneScape experience, offering new challenges and rewards that keep players engaged and invested in the ever-evolving world of Gielinor.
