Street Fighter 6 Joins Exclusive Gaming Club with Perfect Score in Famitsu Magazine

Street Fighter 6's colorful main theme.

Street Fighter 6 has achieved a remarkable milestone, joining the exclusive ranks of games that have received a perfect score in the renowned Japanese magazine Famitsu. In the magazine's 37-year history, only 29 games have been granted this prestigious honor, making it an exceptionally rare feat. What's even more impressive is that Street Fighter 6 is the first game in the Street Fighter series to achieve this remarkable score.

Famitsu's game reviews involve four different reviewers, each providing a score out of 10. When all four writers unanimously award a game with a perfect 10, it earns the coveted 'Famitsu 40'. Issue 1801 of the weekly publication, set to hit Japanese shelves on Thursday, bestows Street Fighter 6 with this remarkable score, solidifying its place among the elite titles.

Interestingly, Street Fighter 6 is the second game within a month to receive the illustrious 'Famitsu 40' accolade. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom also achieved a perfect score in issue 1798, further adding to the excitement and anticipation surrounding these exceptional games.

Now, all eyes turn to another exclusive club: games that have garnered both a 'Famitsu 40' and an 'Edge 10'. The UK magazine Edge is renowned for its discerning evaluations, with only 24 games earning a perfect score since its launch three decades ago. Tears of the Kingdom was the sixth game in history to receive a perfect score in both Famitsu and Edge, fueling anticipation to see if Street Fighter 6 will join this elite group.

While we eagerly await the release of Edge's latest issue, it's worth noting that only a handful of games have achieved the remarkable feat of perfect scores in both publications. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Bayonetta, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Grand Theft Auto V, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild are the distinguished members of this exclusive club.

Over the years, several games came tantalizingly close to attaining perfection in one publication but fell short by a single point in the other. Elden Ring, Grand Theft Auto IV, Red Dead Redemption 2, Super Mario 64, and Super Mario Odyssey received a perfect score in Edge but scored 39 in Famitsu. On the other hand, Dragon Quest IX, Final Fantasy XII, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Metal Gear Solid V, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, SoulCalibur, Super Smash Bros Brawl, and The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim achieved the 'Famitsu 40' but fell short with a score of 9 in Edge.

VGC's own review of Street Fighter 6 awarded the game a stellar five-star rating, describing it as "an incredible fighter dripping with confidence." With tough competition from other major fighting game releases this year, Capcom has clearly put its best foot forward, delivering a standout entry in the genre.

As fans celebrate the remarkable achievement of Street Fighter 6 and its place among gaming's elite, the anticipation continues to grow for the release of Edge's latest issue, where we'll discover if Street Fighter 6 secures its spot in the distinguished 'Famitsu 40' and 'Edge 10' club.
