Old School RuneScape's August 14, 2024, Update: Slayer Partners, Makeovers, and More
By Harry Negron, August 14, 2024
The latest Old School RuneScape (OSRS) update, released on August 14, 2024, brings a range of new features and quality-of-life improvements that are sure to excite players. From the return of Slayer Partners to significant updates in the game's customization options, this patch is packed with enhancements that reflect the community's evolving needs.
Slayer Partners Return
Slayer Partners have officially returned, allowing players to team up with friends to complete Slayer tasks together. This feature, which had been highly requested, has been reintroduced with several key improvements. Now, when players form a partnership, only the block list of the task-obtaining player will be considered, ensuring that the assigned tasks are fair and enjoyable for both partners. Moreover, the requirement for one partner to have a higher Slayer level than the other has been removed, making the feature more accessible.
To prevent potential abuse, the update includes a system where both players must contribute significantly to task completion. If both partners kill at least 20% of the required monsters, the task is marked as completed for both. Points are awarded based on each player’s contribution, ensuring a fair distribution of rewards.
Poll 82 Updates
Continuing with the quality-of-life improvements promised in Poll 82, this update introduces several new features. Players can now swap certain items, such as Amy’s Saw and the Bruma Torch, between the main-hand and off-hand slots. This change is particularly useful for those training Construction, as it frees up valuable inventory space.
Another notable update is the addition of the Big-Search option for Tempoross. This allows players to use five permits at once, streamlining the reward collection process. The ability to expedite these minigame processes is a welcome change, especially for those focused on maximizing their efficiency during gameplay.
Makeover Updates
In response to the community's desire for more inclusive and personalized character customization, the Makeover Mage interface has received a significant overhaul. Players can now choose between Body Type A and Body Type B, with no restrictions based on gender labels. Additionally, new pronoun options—He/Him, She/Her, and They/Them—have been introduced, allowing players to further customize their characters to reflect their identities.
These changes extend to all makeover interfaces in the game, with facial hair styles now available for both body types. Whether visiting Thessalia or Yrsa, players can now freely swap between all customization options, offering greater flexibility and self-expression in Gielinor.
Additional Changes and Fixes
Beyond the headline features, the August 14 update includes numerous other enhancements and bug fixes. Deadman: Armageddon rewards can now be refunded for Points, and the Humidify spell has been updated to fill cups with water, aiding in the preparation of Guthix Rest Tea. Other improvements include restoring the original sound for the Blade of Saeldor and fixing texture rendering issues on the Java client.
Additionally, a 'Deathmatching' button has been added to the in-game Report menu in preparation for the upcoming Deathmatching prohibition, which will be enforced starting August 15. Players are encouraged to familiarize themselves with this new rule, as violations will result in sanctions.
PvP World Rota
As part of the update, the PvP World Rota has moved to Period B, bringing changes to the available PvP and Bounty Hunter worlds. The PvP Arena is now using 'Max/Med' loadouts in Ranked Duels and Tournaments, providing a fresh challenge for competitive players.
With so many new features and improvements, the August 14 update promises to enrich the OSRS experience for players of all types. Whether you're diving back into Slayer tasks with a friend or customizing your character to reflect your true self, there's never been a better time to explore the world of Gielinor. Now, the only question that remains is: who will you partner with for your next adventure?
